Two 45-Ton Feed Bins for Ferme Laroselait in Verchères

Ferme Laroselait S.E.N.C. operates a unique stable in Verchères where 240 Jersey cows are hooked up to a robotic milking system. It also practises large-scale farming. Mathieu Larose is part of the fourth generation to run the family farm. Will his sons one day take the reins? Nobody knows. For now, they seem interested—especially when it comes to tractor rides.

Three Generations of Expertise at Fort Métal

Just like Ferme Laroselait, Fort Métal is a multi-generational business. Its founder, Laurent Fortier, passed down his experience to his son Patrice and grandson David. Fort Métal manufactured its 10,000th grain bin in May 2024, further cementing its reputation. The business produces 1- to 45-ton grain bins at its 20,000 sq. ft. facilities in Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton, then delivers and installs them across Quebec, Eastern Ontario and the Maritimes. Fort Métal has 12 full-time employees and relies on several distributors. These include Tardif Équipements de ferme Inc., which sold the two first 45-ton feed bins to Ferme Laroselait to provide a much-needed increase in storage capacity. Mathieu Larose is now able to transfer a full truckload of feed to a single Fort Métal bin, which saves him a considerable amount of time and money. Never having had an issue with his seven Fort Métal bins, Mathieu jumped on the opportunity to buy the company’s new 45-ton model.

A Hefty Investment

Fort Métal invested over a million dollars in 5 years to build sandblasting, assembly and welding facilities for its new line of 45-ton feed bins. Moreover, it’s the only company to manufacture monolithic (one piece) bins in Quebec—a welded style with no bolted joints where water can enter. The smooth walls also prevent feed from accumulating. To ensure durability, Fort Métal feed bins are cold galvanized with 75% zinc coating and finished with a layer of white paint to maintain a cool inner temperature. Sturdily designed and tested over 50 years, Fort Métal bins are truly worthy of their name!
